For Vikings fans, 2007 was the year Purple Jesus came into their lives. In 2008, the question is can Purple Jesus, aka Adrian Peterson, lead the Vikings to the Promised Land? While it may be a little soon to anoint Minnesota as the team to beat in the NFC, they are a young, talented team with a really good defense. Going forward, the Vikings will need the rest of their offensive attack to be as dangerous as Peterson. However, do they have the talent to do so?
While there’s no denying the impact of Adrian Peterson, in 2008, all eyes will be on quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Can the oft-maligned Jackson improve enough to lead his team to the NFL Playoffs or will it just be more of the Adrian Peterson show, something that’s only good for an 8-8 record. In order to improve upon that, the Vikings will first have to improve upon their 28th-ranked passing attack; the only chink in an attack that could be incredibly formidable with Peterson leading the way.
While the Vikings were active in the offseason by trading for Jared Allen, there are still questions about a team being lead by Jackson. Is he good enough to lead Minnesota to a winning record? Unfortunately for the quarterback position, no matter how good you can throw the ball, you are only as good as the talent around you and besides Peterson; there aren’t many names that jump off the page when you look at the offensive roster. If they can find some offensive balance, the Vikings should be in a position to make a deep run in playoffs, so make sure you don’t miss a game. It’s not often players of Peterson’s magnitude come to franchise so you owe it yourself to get out and watch him play.
