Home to the NHL's Flyers and the NBA's 76ers and seating more than 19,000, the Wachovia Center first opened in 1997. Like most newer arenas, the Center is loaded with luxury suites and premium seating, as well as a huge, eight-sided scoreboard and video screen. The Center and the neighboring Wachovia Spectrum combine to host hundreds of events each year, including Philadelphia Wings and college basketball games, concerts and dozens of other special events.
The atmosphere for sporting events, often resembling a hotel lobby more than an arena, tends to be stuffier than most Philadelphians were used to at the old Spectrum. But in the world of modern-day sports, the luxury suites and premium seats keep the Flyers and Sixers contending for championships, so true diehards don't mind as much.
Nearly every seat is a good one, with no obstructed views or bad sight lines. However, the club level pushes the upper deck closer to the sky, meaning the nosebleed seats are really high. The concourses are bright and fun, filled with a wide range of interactive displays, arcade games, concession stands and memorabilia.
Concessions
Concession stands line both the upper and lower concourses, selling Philadelphia favorites such as cheesesteaks and hoagies, in addition to the usual arena fare such as chicken, ice cream, hot dogs and burgers.
Parking
6,100 parking spaces are available on the same site as the Wachovia Center and Wachovia Spectrum. There are eight parking lots that are brightly lit and patrolled by security personnel throughout the extent of the events.
