Rogers Centre Information

Rogers Centre Field
1 Blue Jays Way Toronto ON

Rogers Centre is a stadium in Toronto, Ontario. It is located next to the CN Tower near Lake Ontario and is home to the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Argonauts. It is mainly used for sports, but also hosts concerts, conventions, and trade fairs.

Rogers Centre has a fully-retractable motorized roof and a 348 room hotel attached to it with 70 rooms overlooking the field. The stadium officially opened on June 3, 1989 and hosted an official grand opening show and celebration. The celebration was broadcast on CBC television network the following evening by Brian Williams.

In February of 2005, Ted Rogers, President and CEO of Rogers Communications and owner of the Toronto Blue Jays announced that his company would increase the team payroll over the next three seasons and announced a three year corporate contract to change the name of SkyDome to the Rogers Centre. Rogers then went on to renovate the stadium. A Jumbotron with a Daktronics ProStar and erecting new monitors including several built into the outfield wall were added. A new artificial playing surface, FieldTurf, was also installed.

In April of 2006 Rogers Centre became smoke-free. Also, in addition to the upgraded video monitors and FieldTurf the entire 100 level concourse was made larger, 43 luxury boxes were renovated and some were converted to larger party suites that can accommodate approximately 150 people. A new Rogers Store was opened in the south end of the stadium on April 4, 2006 and future developments are scheduled like renovating the Blue Jays, Argonauts, and visitor's locker rooms, as well as adding some type of façade to the exterior of the stadium.
