New Orleans Arena Information

New Orleans Arena
1501 Girod Street • New Orleans, LA 70113

The New Orleans Arena, the Louisiana Superdome's great counterpart, is a state of the art venue located less than a mile from the historic French Quarter, the mighty Mississippi River and most of New Orleans major downtown hotels. The facility is ideal for many different types of events including conventions, performances, sporting events and family shows.

The arena, which opened in 1999 and seats 18,500 for basketball, was designed to provide airy vistas of the city as well as convenient entrances and exits. Most of the crowd will come from the Superdome plaza into a glassed-in, three-story entryway. There, the fans become part of the decoration as they pass up the escalators onto the exposed decks of the upper tiers, where they might pause to take in the city view. The jutting, angular, greenhouse entrances are another example of the cool crystalline aesthetic that seems to have guided the design.

The arena is an easy walk from the French Quarter, so if you are in the area, that may be the most convenient way to get there. The arena is located downtown, at the foot of a ramp from Interstate 10, the Mississippi River Bridge approach, and the Pontchartrain Expressway; it is connected by two pedestrian ramps to the Louisiana Superdome.

Concessions
Popeye's fried chicken, which originated in New Orleans, is sold here, but the rest of the choices usually run toward standard stadium fare. Two dozen permanent food stands and plenty of vendors offer efficient service with few lines and short waits.

Parking
The Superdome parking facilities provide streamlined access to the arena. There are 5,000 spaces available in the parking garage, and approximately 10,000 spaces located within easy walking distance, providing ample parking, even for sold-out events. Be aware that the four main garages in the Superdome are color-coded: blue, green, orange and yellow.
