Salt Lake City Fine Dining

Market Street Grill
48 West Market Street • Salt Lake City, UT 84101 • 801.322.4668
The Market Street Grill is quite possibly Utah's best seafood restaurant. Expect a wait before you're led into the noisy, somewhat cramped dining room. There's a good reason the place is packed--fresh fish is flown in daily from around the world, and the Grill knows how to do it up right. Favorites include the Pacific red snapper Monterey, served with fresh tomato sauce, sliced mushrooms, garlic, parsley, white wine, and gulf shrimp; and the cioppino, a seafood stew of lobster, shrimp, crab, clams, snapper, and mussels; or choose one of almost two dozen other seafood offerings. You'll also find a good choice of dinner salads, pastas, and steaks, including an excellent slow-roasted prime rib if you arrive early enough. Look for all the standard choices during the day, plus a seafood omelet, of course, at breakfast. Full liquor service is available.

The New Yorker
60 West Market Street • Salt Lake City, UT 84101 • 801.322.4668
This is Salt Lake's finest restaurant. With rich woods, understated elegance, quiet sophistication, excellent food, and impeccable service, The New Yorker feels more like a London club than a Utah one. Technically a private club, you'll have to buy a membership to enter ($5 for 2 weeks), but trust us--it's worth it. Sit either in the dining room or in the less formal cafe, where you'll dine under the original stained-glass ceiling from the old Hotel Utah. From the dining-room dinner menu, you might choose the sautéed sweetbreads and fresh foie gras with port wine and orange sauce; Dungeness crab cakes, which aficionados say are as good as--or better than--those you'll find anywhere else; or the rack of lamb with rosemary cream sauce. The lunch menu offers dishes such as sautéed chicken breast with tomato, artichokes, olives, thyme, and garlic; an excellent tenderloin of beef with cabernet sauce; and sandwiches and salads as well.

Pina Restaurant
327 West 200 South • Salt Lake City, UT • 801.355.PINA
This open dining room, with its high ceilings, light plaster walls, and rich wood contrast, provides a welcoming environment for a relaxing meal. Offerings include sandwiches and salads, pizza and pasta, and dinner entrees such as curry-coconut-crusted mahimahi, Cajun fried chicken, paella for two, grilled steak, and smoked baby-back ribs. The menu runs the gamut from the familiar to unusual and exotic dishes.
