This has long been the best Italian restaurant in Portland, and with fewer than a dozen tables, it's also one of the smallest. Everything, from the breads to the luscious desserts, is made fresh in the kitchen with the best of locally available seasonal ingredients. This is an ideal setting for a romantic dinner, and service is attentive--the waiter explains dishes in detail as they are served, and dishes are magically whisked away as they're finished.

Many are surprised on their first visit to Genoa to discover what lies behind the door of the unassuming storefront. Stepping inside, guests leave urban Portland far behind and travel to another world. As a guest to Genoa you can expect to begin your meal with an aperitif or cocktail, either in the salon-like sitting room if you have arrived early, or at your table in the dining room. Once seated you will be presented with the first course of the evening-antipasto-to stimulate and tease your appetite for the meal to come.

Located out on the Columbia River near the airport, Salty's is one of Portland's best waterfront restaurants, with views that take in the river, mountains, and forests. Preparations here are creative, the portions are large, and the salmon dishes are particularly good. Try some seared salmon with chanterelle-zinfandel reduction or blackened salmon on a Caesar salad. A few choice offerings of steak and chicken dishes offer options to those who don't care for seafood.
