A short drive from downtown, this upscale restaurant serves a less hip clientele than some of its downtown competitors, but even hipsters will want to put up with the cheesy piano bar out front. Decorated in candlelight and muted olive tones, the real show happens on your plate. You can start with a rich soup or heavy porcini gnocchi, but what you absolutely must order is the spinach loaf, a delicious garlic bread loaf filled with fresh crushed spinach.

Nothing comes small in the huge, spectacular Hyatt Regency, least of all in its top-notch steakhouse. Serving the best cuts of beef in Buffalo, E.B. Green's has a classy interior with a lush, sunken dining room. The hook here is that you get to pick your own piece of beef from a cart rolled up table side (you don't need to be a butcher, they'll help you choose). Sides are a la carte, as at any self-respecting steakhouse, and while the spinach is creamy and the mac-and-cheese perfectly crusted over, they're not necessary -- each entree comes with salad and a choice of potato.
