Welcome home, Coach Bob Huggins. That's the mood for this season of Mountaineer basketball as the West Virginia supports embrace the return of their native son. Coach Huggins, after a one-year stay at Kansas State, returns to his alma mater to continue what John Beilein, previous WVU head coach started. Coach Huggins inherits a talented team from Coach Beilein, who moved on to the Michigan Wolverines, however, is it the kind of players Coach Huggins needs for his up-tempo style of play?

To address this, the Mountaineer players were put through a strenuous off-season conditioning program to prepare them for the type of basketball their new coach will instill. The good news for fans and coaches alike is the talent inherited by Coach Huggins. The focal point of these players will be the explosive Joe Alexander and Da'Sean Butler, giving West Virginia a reliable duo at the forward spots. The backcourt features steady play in the form Darris Nichols at point and Alex Ruoff at the shooting guard.

As per usual, Coach Huggins quickly made some headway in the recruiting phase by signing the talented Will Thomas, a 6-5 guard who will be expected to contribute as a freshman. If these players can buy into Coach Huggins' approach, West Virginia should be able to make a lot of noise in the NCAA and the Big East. Will it be a warm welcome for WVU's native son?
