Entering the 2007-08 season, Coach Dave Odom and the South Carolina Gamecocks join the college basketball fray with a relatively young, but talented team. Considering the competitiveness of the SEC and Division 1 as a whole, sometimes young teams are a liability in regards to successful seasons. However, Coach Odom has shown the ability to take young teams and mold them into formidable opponents.

While they may be young, it's not like the cupboard is bare. Led by Georgia Tech transfer, Zam Fredrick and senior Dwayne Day, the Gamecocks do have some talent when they hit the floor. Some of the younger players to watch out for are sophomore Dominique Archer, a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team, sophomore and Cincinnati transfer Devan Downey, and sophomore Mitchell Carter. Coach Odom also has some talented freshmen on his roster, led by big men Austin Steed and Sam Muldrow.

With the right mix of experienced ball-handlers and young, athletic talent, the Gamecocks are in a position to make some noise in the incredibly competitive SEC East and NCAA as well. Can South Carolina compete for the regular season SEC title and make it back to the Big Dance? These are lofty goals to be sure but it's definitely within the realm of possibility.
