What can Irish fans expect from the 2007-08 version of their college basketball team? Hopefully, it will be enough to help them forget about the football team's struggles, however, that remains to be seen. Can Coach Mike Brey expect this year's team exceed last year's over-achievement? Losing guard Colin Falls and forward Russell Carter will be hard to overcome, but there is some talent on the roster, especially in regards to the underclassmen.

Leading the way for the Irish will probably be Troy Jackson and Luke Harangody, sophomores who were members of the Big East All-Freshman team. Assisting Jackson in the backcourt will be Kyle McAlarney. This gives the Irish dependable guards, a necessity in the Big East. On the inside, Harangody will be joined by 6-11 Luke Zeller and 6-9 Zach Hillesland, giving the Irish a potent inside presence as well. The newcomers should also get plenty of playing time, especially when you consider how talented their incoming players are. These newcomers include Ty Profitt, Tyrone Nash, and Carleton Scott.

With a talented nucleus in place, the Irish are in a position to play spoiler in the murderous Big East, a conference that features 16 teams, a number of which are in the top 25. If the Irish can make through the Big East without injury or a complete collapse, they should be in position to make a nice post-season run, something Irish fans will surely welcome, especially after football season.
