While Coach Greg McDermott's rebuilding project may not be moving as quickly as some Cyclone fans longing for the days of Marcus Fizer, to say he isn't making progress would be incorrect. McDermott's teams have hovered around the .500 mark since he's taken the reigns, but with an infusion of young talent, the Cyclones could very well be on track for a post season berth in either the NIT or maybe even the Big Dance. To do so, the following players will be counted on heavily:

Mike Taylor, a senior guard and the Cyclones' leading scorer who averaged 16 points a game. Joining Taylor is sophomore Wesley Johnson and center Jiri Hubalek. These three will be joined by Alex Thompson and Craig Brackins. Thompson is a big body who transferred in from Iowa and is expected to help man the middle with Hubalek. Brackins is another big man who brings a reputation of being an explosive shot-blocker, making the Cyclone inside attack quite formidable.if they can learn to play together. Not many teams have the luxury of having three players taller than 6-10 and if they can produce, the Cyclones will not be an easy win for anybody.

The goal of this year's Iowa State team is improvement from last year. If they can get some steady perimeter play to match their front court prowess, the McDermott's team will make everyone forget about Marcus Fizer and Larry Eustacy.
